Simple, inexpensive, and effective, self-filling siphon tubes are a no-brainer, and must have for everyone who needs to fill anything with gasoline from jerry cans. Gone are the days of spilling gas all over place while messing with funnels, wrestling with heavy jerry cans, and trying to get the spout in what always seems like an awkward place. I fill both my boats 90% of the time with jerry cans as the fuel docks are either not open when I need them to be, or when I’m further afield, not there at all. These simple siphon hoses are so slick and useful, I have two of them on each of my boats - just in, case… lol.
As this is a siphon, the only thing you need to do is place the jerry can higher than the tank you are trying to fill.
Insert the one-way valve on end of the hose into your jerry can, give it a few shakes, and presto - your gas is flowing! It’s a simple as that. You can even let go of everything at this point and just let gravity do its thing. And it takes only a few minutes to empty a 5 gallon can.
Here is mine in action...
There are battery powered pumps that fit onto jerry cans as well, but compared to just a simple self-filling hose, they are: A) more expensive, B) more cumbersome, and by far the main drawback to them is, of course, they are completely useless without batteries. So when you show up to your boat one morning and the batteries in your pump are dead (which will happen), what are the chances that you will have a couple of double AA’s in your pocket to save the day? Right. So even if you do go the battery powered route, you will still be glad you had one of these siphons stashed away on your boat.
Cheap. Simple. Easy to use. No batteries required. Take up no space. Work like a charm. You definitely need one (or two). Available from most general hardware/automotive shops, and everywhere online.
